Almost a year ago, my friend Regina suggested that I should join The Postcard Collective’s exchanges. She introduced this as some sort of art exchange from people all over the globe through the form of postcards wherein there is a corresponding theme for the exchanges. The exchanges are held every season.

I read more about The Postcard Collective through their site where they said how these exchanges and postcards represent the connection of people all over the globe who want to be acknowledged and to acknowledge others through their art. And through their art, is how people express and share their thoughts to the world, especially with people who are open to see things in a different perspective.
This is exactly one of the many things I’ve always wanted to have in a community which is why I joined in a heartbeat! Although it wasn’t until the Winter 2018 exchange when I was finally selected as a participant.
For the Winter 2018 exchange, the theme was:
“CONTRIVED COINCIDENCES”
No explanations were included. Just these two words forming a thought that you must interpret through your postcard. Let me be honest, I was more than confused when I first read it. And I mailed my postcards a few weeks after the target deadline, ugh. It was when I started receiving postcards that I pushed myself to finally get them printed and mailed.
As I received people’s works from all over the globe, it made me really happy how we all have different understandings of the theme, especially with how we interpreted it.
Some made me smile; some works made me think twice. Others still remain as a mystery to me.
It’s fun to think how everyone can be so different yet similar at the same time. Don’t you think?
This is, by far, one of the best decisions and most fun things I’ve done in my life. I would love to do it again if ever I get accepted again. This is a fun way to broaden one’s perspective and create something as well. I’m glad I had a chance to experience this.
If you’re interested and would like to join their exchanges, you can go to their Call to Artists page to join the seasonal exchange. You can also join their ongoing project called Sincerely Yours.
