Old Habits Die Hard: A Beauty and Skincare Haul

The first quarter of the year was the worst case of impulsive buying. Aside from the clothing haul and other stuff I’ve accumulated in a span of four months(including December 2017), a big portion of my wallet’s mourning went to beauty and skincare products. And of course, I have a list of excuses but the number one excuse I kept telling (and lying) to myself is that I had to treat myself and that I deserve this after one tough year. Sure, it’s valid. But once you see my expenses, you’ll know that my wallet has been through a lot.I have so many products to share withal of you!

This is surely a long read. Most of the items are from my own budget but some of them are gifted to me. (Bless these people.) I'm no beauty or skincare guru and I’m a beginner about these things so please bear with me when I comment about the products. I’ll try to include a brief review or impression on the products I’ve already tried and used.

Let’s get started with the haul!

For skincare products, most were gifted to me. It made me realize how I appreciate items like these compared to the usual stuff I’d go for when I was a teenager.

My aunt gifted me a Messy Bessy Body Care Set which includes a hand and body wash in aloe vera and green tea and a hand cream in kiwi. I haven’t used this yet but I really love the scent of the hand cream! The Detail Lip Scrub, on the other hand, was gifted to me by a friend of mine. I really like this and I use this from time to time when I don’t feel like using the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask.

The next products are a toner and a makeup remover. The toner was something that my mom got for our family to try and use. It worked wonders for me. I’ve been using different toners just to look for the right one and I’m glad this works well with my skin. The Garnier Micelar Cleansing Water was gifted to me by one of my high school best friends. This is just wonderful and it removes a great amount of make up with just one swipe. I’m scared though because I’m currently getting breakouts and I’m not sure if it’s because of this, the moisturizer, or the primer that I’m using.

This is the moisturizer I’m currently using, the Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion. It can be applied to the body and the face as well. It didn’t work for my brother but it worked for my mom and I. I’ve been using it for months already!

Let’s move on to makeup! This is where it gets crazy. I had to do a withdrawal from buying makeup products just to keep my expenses at bay. And let me be honest, I’m having such a hard time especially with the sales online and in stores. :c

For the first makeup items, these are all for the face. The Maybelline Baby Skin Pore Eraser is what I use as a primer. It’s an okay product but like what I said, I’m kind of unsure about this one as I think it could be causing my breakouts. The next products are from Nichido. The Nichido Matte Finish Make-Up Setting Spray is a good product. It keeps my makeup intact, hahaha. But when it’s really hot outside and when I get sweaty, that’s when it budges. The next one is the Nichido Final Powder in the shade Creamy Glow. This really works for me and it sets the foundation and concealer that I use. I’m not sure if the shade matches me as it kind of makes my face have some sort of pink shade wherein I’m naturally am warm-toned. I guess I took the wrong shade but overall, it does it job!

Another face product is the Maybelline Dream Satin Skin Breathable Two Satin Two Way Cake in B1 Nude Beige. This has SPF 32 PA+++ which is great! It’s a must for me to have sun protection whenever I go out. This product has medium to high coverage. I think the coverage is buildable and you can definitely use it in two ways (wet and dry application). Although the thing about this is when I use it and I have dry patches, it puts those dry patches on a pedestal (exaggeration, of course, but it basically highlights the dryness even more). I use this when I don’t feel like using liquid foundation.

One of the most raved products is the Innisfree No Sebum Powder. I’ve been wanting to try this and I’m glad I was able to get my hands on one of these through Shopee. It’s an instant HG product for me as it keeps the oiliness at bay. If I usually oil up after a few hours, this thing keeps me oil-free for almost 5 to 6 hours. I know that’s a pretty strong claim but of course that depends on your daily activities, hahaha. But yes, I’m in love with this!

I decided to buy a brow gel just to keep my eyebrows looking a lot less sabog. At first, I got this Careline Brow Gel in Coffee. I thought this was from their rebranding collection but, haha, how stupid I am to just grab this and pay for it. I decided to buy another brow gel but this time, I got the Maybelline Fashion Brow in the shade 5 Dark Brown. It still looks light but I can deal with it.

The reason I had to ditch the Careline Brow Gel was because of this. As you can see, Careline’s applicator (the one on the left) was just a no-no. I actually tried to apply this on my eyebrows and I ended up with cartoon eyebrows that seemed like they were drawn using a Pentel Pen marker. Maybelline’s applicator (the one on the right) works fine on my eyebrows and it keeps my brows set and looking okay.

Another eye makeup item is this Maybelline Hypersharp Laser Liner in Black. I really like this because as someone who is new to the eyeliner game, it made the whole experience so much easier than what I’m used to.I had the Etude House Oh My Eye Line and that made me so frustrated. I’m glad I decided to buy this eyeliner.

Here is a sample photo of how the strokes look when using the eyeliner. It’s not matte and not that pigmented compared to other products but I’m good with it! But the trouble of having even lines on both my eyes are still a problem. :-) :-) :-)

One of the favorite products I bought is this eyeshadow palette from Colourpop called Yes, Please! I really love the warm tones in this palette and it’s something I’m currently addicted to.

It has matte and shimmery shades making it perfect when I want to glam it up a bit or just keep it simple. I’ve been using some other shades as a blush as well. The colors are so pigmented and let me tell you, one tap using your fingertip is enough to color an entire eyelid! I may be exaggerating, but it really is so pigmented! I’ve been loving this for months already and has become a staple piece in my makeup bag.

This next item is the Focallure Your Favors Eighteen Eyeshadow Palette in 01 Bright Lux. This showcases a shimmer and matte shades. A big issue about this item is that I originally ordered the other variant which has more warm tones but I guess it’s better this way since I have a lot of palettes in warm hues.

Here’s another Focallure pallete but this one is the 18 Eyeshadow Palette Twilight Collection. I love the wide range of colors especially the shimmer ones. I’ve yet to use this and I’ll probably post a review about these Focallure palettes as well.

I’ve been splurging on lip products non-stop when I noticed how I don’t have a variety of options with what I can wear when I’m going out. But your girl got out of control. The first one was gifted to my mom but she gave it to me since she goes for lip tints. It’s a Victoria’s Secret Satin Lip Gloss in Caramel Kiss. I love the smell of this product and how it makes my lips extra. But the down side is that this product is so sticky and when I layer it on top of other lip products, it just ruins the look. But I’ll gladly use it on its own some other time!

These lip products are the ones I bought for myself. From left to right, I got the Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Matte Lipstick in 660 Touch of Spice, the Careline matte liquid lipsticks in Semi Sweet and Gotta Go, and 3CE’s Mood Recipe Matte Lip Color in 114 Rows. My personal favorite is the 3CE lipstick and the Careline matte liquid lipstick in Semi Sweet. They are my go-to products.

Surprise, surprise, more lip products. The Dear Darling Tint in PK003 was gifted to me by Tin, while I bought the Peripera Ink Airy Velvet in Glimpse Brick Brown. I really thought the Peripera Ink products are transferproof but I was wrong. It transfers so much product but when you look at your lips, there’s still a lot intact. I have mixed feelings about it but the scent is soooo fruity and I love it! I’ve yet to try the Dear Darling Tint but it’s a shade I don’t usually wear.

Something that I was too excited about was this Peripera Luggage Set. It was on sale on Shopee so I had to get my hands on it. (Oh, excuses!) I was surprised with how small the items were inside. It was so deceiving and the seller didn’t even put details on the description box. Well, my fault for being too excited. I think I might review this item some time!

To conclude this post, bakit ang gastos kong nilalang? Hahaha! But on a serious note, I’m happy I found another form of expressing myself and that is through makeup. It makes me feel more of myself when I wear makeup that matches how I feel, if that makes sense. I’ve been really into makeup lately but I swear I’ll make time for a proper skincare routine that actually works. Here’s to not spending a single dime on makeup, especially lip products for the next few months, hahaha. Let’s hope I stay true to what I say!
