Current Book Collection

Here are a few books Iwant to share with everyone here. I sold a lot of my old books since they were more of a clutter than books I actually cherish. (This is one of the things that a book in my current collection taught me.) And since a few months, I’ve slowly regained my love for reading. I haven’t read novels in a long time except for a few exceptions but I really am loving poetry books and self-help books. So here is a short list of my current book collection and a few introductions about them especially the ones that I really love.

Books I’ve Read

The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo – This is a big help for those who are having troubles with a lot of clutter in their rooms and homes. But for this to be effective, you need to follow every bit of detail the author asks you to do.
It helped me become more organized and I was able to live a clutter-free life for months… until I went back to my old self and here I am, yet again, surrounded with trash. The deal breaker for me was letting go of handwritten letters and photographs. I hope I’ll try this again one day and be able to live a minimalist life.

This Modern Love by Will Darbyshire – One of my favorite YouTubers came up with this book and it is composed of letters from people all over the world expressing their feelings to their loved ones, people they admire, or people they once loved. It was divided into three parts: beginning, middle, and end. It was such a light read and it made me smile a couple of times. I participated in this but my entry didn’t make it, haha. But it was such a fun experience. I recommend you guys to give this a try. This is probably one of my favorite reads so far.

Architecture 101: From Frank Gehry to Ziggurats, an Essential Guide to Building Styles and Materials by Nicole Bridge – Since I’m taking up architecture, I thought of buying this book and just read it whenever I need to refresh my mind when it comes to architecture. I think this will be handy when I review for the board exams. I also wanted to buy Astronomy 101. There are different topics similar to this book like Psychology 101 and Human Anatomy 101, if I’m not mistaken. I’ve yet to read the whole book but I probably will once I study for the boards!

Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur – A poetry book that I really had fun reading that I had to put tags on various pages just so I can read them again or even make visual representations of how I understand them. It talked about love, pain, pursuing one’s dreams, and a lot more.

Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami – Let me be honest with you, I still haven’t finished reading this book. Hehe. But after years of reading this on and off, I love it. Although it’s slow paced which is maybe why I had a hard time reading this and I always forget where I left off, I love how Murakami pays attention to details.

The Architecture of Happiness by Alain de Botton – Though we were required in one of our classes years ago to read this, I enjoyed it. The author paved a way to a different perspective on how to see architecture. If you’re an architecture student, you should read this. It gives a different kind of enlightenment about architecture.

Wonder by Raquel J. Palacio – A heartwarming story, this book is something that made me smile so often whilst I read through the pages. It made my heart flutter in a way. It gave me a sign of hope since I was reading this on and off during a rough time this year. This was gifted to me by an internet friend, by the way. Thanks, Jay!

Books I’ve yet to Read

  • Penguin Little Black Classics: A Cup of Sake Beneath the Cherry Trees by Yoshida Kenko
  • Penguin Little Black Classics: Love that moves the sun and other stars by Dante Alighieri
  • Black Cat Bone by John Burnside

Journal / Book

How do I categorize these? These are books that are made to be filled up like journals. I actually love these and I’m planning to buy more of these kind of books.

Wreck This Journal by Keri Smith – This is probably something that’s been booming in the journaling and bookworm world for years already. I’m happy to have this by my side because it really does keep me company wherever I go with it. This was gifted to me by my friend Jozef last Christmas!

Pick Me Up by Adam J. Kurtz – This is something that I really needed and it really became of great help these past few months. I fill it up whenever I feel down or after breakdowns (sigh). It really kept me company and it helped me calm down.

I’m glad I’m slowly opening my heart and mind to reading again. I hope I’ll have more time to read more books and enough money to buy the books that I really want to read. I remember how my grandmother used to tell my mom that when it comes to books, one should never be guilty of spending too much. *wink wink*
